ETIAS renewal

ETIAS isn't renewed, it's reapplied. When your 3-year authorisation expires, or when you get a new passport, you start a fresh application and pay the €20 fee again.

    When ETIAS expires

Your ETIAS expires on whichever happens first:

    • 3 years after the date of approval
    • The expiry date of the passport it's linked to
    • If your passport is lost, stolen, or replaced for any reason

    How to reapply

The process is identical to the first application, go to the official portal, enter your new passport details, answer the background questions, and pay the fee. There's no fast-track or loyalty discount for repeat applicants.

    When to reapply

Apply for the new ETIAS as soon as your previous one expires or your new passport is issued. The EU recommends having a valid ETIAS in hand at least 96 hours before travel.

Does renewal carry over my approval history?

Yes. The ETIAS database keeps your history, which usually means repeat approvals are faster, most renewals are auto-approved within minutes, unless something in your circumstances has changed.

What if my application is denied at renewal?

Renewal is treated as a fresh decision. New criminal records, immigration breaches, or overstays since your last approval can all trigger a refusal. See the ETIAS denied page for next steps.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I renew ETIAS before it expires?

There's no formal early renewal, but you can submit a new application at any time. The new approval replaces the old one immediately.

Do I get a discount when renewing ETIAS?

No. The full €20 fee applies to every application, including renewals.
